What an interesting story. We get Dig's POV for a little more than the first half of the book and some questions I had from Lock & Key were answered and some misconceptions cleared up. Dig's past was really put into the forefront and it made sense as to why he was the way he was. We get Grace's POV for the rest of the book and find out where she and Miller stand in their quest for a baby. When things don't work out during their first try at surrogacy, Grace spirals into a depression and stays distant from Miller. We find that she has regrets waiting to have a baby with Dig and feels that this whole thing is her fault. Miller and Boner try to pull her out of her depression but it isn't until an unexpected person from the past appears that she is finally given the hope that it will turn out all right. She is reminded of Dig's Latin mantra and decides to take it to heart and start acting on it. Tania shows up unexpectedly back in Grace's life and tries to get Grace back on the right path. When a short trip to scout for antiques goes awry, we find Grace in a difficult situation with Creeper again and we meet her new savior who provides Grace with a gift that was from the heart and provides her with her hopes and dreams. Very nicely done and was just as happy with this book as the first one. I usually do not read paranormal books but this was done in such a great way that I didn't have any issues with it at all.Tags : Random & Rare (Lock & Key Book 2) - Kindle edition by Cat Porter. Random Rare Lock Key Book 2 edition by Cat Porter Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
RANDOM & RARE is the perfect title for this incredible novel. We move through our lives not knowing how one decision will impact others and that seemingly small acts can have huge consequences. Take the author's advice and do NOT read this book without have read LOCK & KEY first.
I loved LOCK & KEY, and while I downloaded this novel immediately, I will admit to some trepidation about being let down by the second book. Sometimes, it is better to leave great characters alone. Happily, I enjoyed RANDOM & RARE even more than its predecessor. Readers should know there is overlap in terms of plot because a number of chapters are told from Dig's point of view. This is both necessary and valuable to better understand Grace's first love, Dig, who was more complex than even she knew. Cat Porter does a great job of revealing the past and moving the plot forward. Her writing is eloquent and her literary style is something that romance readers rarely get to savor.
"Boner was a dark, volatile creature cut with doses of vulgar and dashing. A modern day gypsy, a contemporary buccaneer."
"Even in this quiet, dusty town called Meager, in lives marked by slim offerings and harsh circumstances, there was still the opportunity for synchronicity, for the alignment of the stars in one's favor, especially when graced by the power of one man's love."
I will admit to crying several times in this moving book and know that it is a series I will reread in the future. Thank you, Cat Porter, for bringing literature to MC romance.
I fell in love with Dig in the first book. For the most part we were given only the good parts of what Grace remembered of Dig. His love, his care and his unbelievably sweet sweet words. That on top of knowing from the start that he dies tragically young. That on top of the sweetness and absolutism that is young first love even with all the pain that comes with it. I fell in love with Dig.
And then this book. Dig's book. He is flawed, human, imperfect, and doomed, tortured and marked absolutely by his childhood tragedy. Till death. He is beautiful, brave, stalwart, and noble, down to his very essence. Beyond death.
Cat Porter - thank you so much for sharing Dig with us. He is a character I will never forget. I usually shy away from the books that will make me ugly cry. They're books for goodness sake. They're supposed to be entertainment. Life is hard enough, I don't need books to bring me down too. They're supposed to be the escape. Maybe a few tears or a little angst to bring a bit of tension to make the HEA that much sweeter. And then this book. Wrecked. Shuddering crying. Gasping breaths. For a redemptive love that is all that remains of a beautiful beautiful man. Thank God
This book was a two parter that totally blew me away! With a more in depth look at Grace’s life with Dig, we’re shown more sides to their relationship. The parts that weren’t as rosy as the memories she shared in the previous book. I got to know Dig on a much deeper level and that limitless love her had for her. It was so surreal to watch it transcend from the beyond is a series of events that could only be a result of a love so powerful it goes beyond time and space. It’s a soulful desire to fulfill life promises.
This book was deep and emotional and way more than I could have ever expected it to be. My heart ached for Grace’s pain and soared with her hope and bloomed with the happiness she finally found. That joy she has always deserved. This book was breathtakingly beautiful.
